It literally rains everyday in Lae, mostly at night but it’s pretty much a bet that rain will fall within a 24 hour period. Rain is good, it cools it down a little bit.
I asked one of the nationals the other day what the winters and summers are like here. He said that in Lae there are 2x seasons : the wet season and the dry season, it always rains in the wet season and in the dry season it probably will rain. The place is so green and lush and Lae itself is located in a valley and has magnificient views towards the mountains. The view looking out across the valley towards the mountain ranges early in the morning or late in the afternoon is just stunning. PNG truly has a rich collection of natural scenery.
Well, I presented my 1st lecture yesterday and I am glad to say that it went well. I was quite nervous beforehand but once I got “up and running” I was in my element. Once I get the hang of it and settle in I think I will really enjoy the teaching and public speaking side of things.
I have a temporary boarder staying with me. His name is Henri and he is ex military/policeman from Newcastle. In return for letting him stay with me he has bought some stuff for my house and also some food. As much as I like living alone, it is good for the mental health to have some company. He has business associates in Lae so during the day he is out and about. We usually have dinner together.
Looks like I have worked out a way to post photos !! So have a look in the “photos” album for updates. I will be posting a few from the 1st 2x weeks here and then perhaps post a ”photo of the day”.
And guess what ? I now have a gardener and a lady that helps me with cleaning and washing. The gardener’s name is Simon and he has a “peg” leg, his english is very broken and I need to practice my Tok Pisin with him. The cleaning lady’s name is Rondi and she is a grandmother and a devout lutheran. Her husbands name is Thomas with whom I have become good friends.
Anyway family and friends, better get “off the blogg” and into some work.
