BBQ at Goasa and Edna’s…

A couple of nights ago Goasa and Edna had a BBQ at their place….

Last week Goasa got a call from one of his relatives from his village to say that some fish was on it's way !!!  The day that it was supposed to arrive Goasa took a bus trip out to the airport to pick it up. Guess what : No fish !!!  As it turns out the box of fish was sent a couple of days later (this Wednesday gone). Whereas the 1st trip out to the airport was a waste of time the 2nd trip (this Wednesday gone) wasn't !!  When Goasa got back from the airport I was still in the office so I got to see the box (unopened). I made a mental not to go and visit Goasa and his family on my way home, which I did. When I arrived…  the fish was already on the BBQ and unfortunately I had already eaten. There were different types of fish and also some sago, which his relatives had sent up from Kerema (Gulf Province) from the South Coast of PNG.

You can also see some other pictures I took that evening in the “Friends” Photo Album. Goasa and his wife Edna have four children : Orula + Ilave (Twins) + Hazel + Joshua. When the fish and the sago was cooked we ventured into the house and tried some of the wares. As I had already eaten I had a nibble and tried some fish and also some sago. Not sure what kind of fish it was but it was delicious. The sago was different but nevertheless nice tasting and also filling.

Interesting how people live differently in different parts of the world. The differences between how people live in Australia and what they do is eons apart. Life here is simple and people get sheer enjoyment from the simple things in life. It seems life in the west has become too complex and we have forgotten about some of the basic pleasures that life has to offer.

Simplicity has a lot going for it. The transition from complexity to simplicity is not an easy one but I am certainly enjoying the process.

Next BBQ at my place….  sausages, tomato sauce and bread !!!!
