
Had to show you this one. The above photo was taken in the men's toilet of Business Studies (about 5 minutes ago). The tap has basically been leaking since I started here in April! The problem was reported to Maintenance some time ago but as yet they still haven't got around to fixing it.
Let's do some basic calculations on how much water is lost just from this one tap. Conservatively let's say that the tap leaks 1 litre of water every 15 secs.
Water lost per hour : 240 litres
Water lost per day : 5760 litres
Water lost per month : 172800 litres
Water lost per year : 2.1 Megalitres !!!!
Considering there are around 100,000 people in Lae living in settlements that don't have any running water, I think this situation is fairly pathetic.
UNITECH certainly has some work to do before they qualify for ISO14001 accreditation !!!
I know that there are several UNITECH staff that regularly read my blog. I am hoping that my post will “speed” up the lead time to getting this tap fixed.
