Finally some photos from my recent visit to Wagang village. The above photo is of Jethro, one of the clan elders fron Wagang village. I was his guest and stayed in his house. His wife Hane and daughter Anna were great hosts and cooked and looked after me like I was one of their own.
The above photo was taken at Jethro’s sisters place about 2 hours walk from the village itself and closer to the beach.
It will probably take me a day or two to get all the photos posted and the stories, of which there are plenty, will follow the photos. In the meantime check out what I have posted so far in the Wagang visit 21/11/05 photo album.
Village life is a hard life. I remember years ago meeting a man that had married a Pitjanjara woman and moved into the desert in South Australia to live. He told me that it took him close to 5 years for his body to adjust to the harsh conditions of the desert. I now believe him.
In the back of my mind I am planning on living in a PNG village for a period of time after my volunteer assignment has finished (April 2007). I now know that it will take quite some time for this city body to adjust to the village life style.
Anyway folks… enough for now : more stories to follow.
Plenty of stories !!!
