(Continued on from Goroka – Day #2 (Part B))
Back to Lae…
Up at 6am, checked out the hotel by 7am and on the road in PMV at 7:05am. While I was settling the account at hotel reception, Eli went to wait outside the hotel, by the time I had come outside, Eli had already hailed a PMV headed in Lae direction.
As with all things PMVish in PNG – we drove round town for about an hour “searching” for a full contingent of passengers. By 8:30am we were “chockers” and our journey back down the mountain began in earnest.
The return trip was fairly uneventful and we all arrived back in Lae in one piece, no raskol hold-ups and no accidents. After a couple of toilet stops and the mandatory stop at Umi markets to buy some buai we arrived back in Lae just after midday. Certainly a speedy return journey back to the coast.

Guess what?
My next trip up to Goroka… this coming weekend !! No more Bird of Paradise hotel or pizza for dinner. This time I will be staying with Eli’s relatives in a village just outside of Goroka.
