The following email was distributed this morning to all UNITECH staff :
Dear Users
Please take note that effords to restore phone lines particularly to the Agriculture and A/Science Departments has had cabling problem. Much of the old cables laid many years ago has gone through wear and tear. Preventive maintenance has not been going well because of budget allocations to the Communication Section and also I believe to other University service sections as well to attend. As a result, it is now affecting public user services. It is not that ITS can not do it within reasonable time schedule as many might think of.
To those affected, I ask you to bears with us untill such time the services can be restored. Efforts to restore the woren out cable will take
indefinite time.My sincere apologies for this.
Typical ! No money for this and no money for that !! Essential services falling into disrepair as a result of non maintenance. PNG management have no concept of assets maintenance whatsoever.
Some things get fixed… eventually… after they haven’t worked for ages.
It sucks !
Two questions need to be asked :
1) What is the money being spent on ??
2) Where precisely does management direct it’s focus and energy ?
Definitely a source of frustration for many of the folks around here.
Who is responsible ?
When will “big talk” translate into meaningful and fruitful actions ?
Where can one find any substance round here?
When are Housing going to fix those problems in my house that have been sitting with them ever since I arrived in PNG (April 2005).
Patience is certainly not one of my virtues.
So… fuck’m !!!

tingting bilong yu…
