Eye balls hanging out of my head after a late night. After my laptop crashed last week I was forced to rebuild it. Getting Windows XP back on was not a problem but…
With my friend Steve B. recently sending me out a copy of Suse Linux V10 I was keen to get both operating systems up and running. So therefore the late night.
After much sweat and tears my laptop can now bootup to either : DOS, Linux or Windows XP. Yeehaaah !! Something to do of an evening anyway other sit outside, wait for the rain to come and smoke ciggies.
Over the years I have had many attempts at installing Linux and to be honest they have all been met with complications. To give you an example : I have Suse V9 and also V10. V10 would not install from scratch after not being able to recognise my laptop's DVD drive. But I found out that if I installed V9 1st then I could do a V9 to V10 upgrade. Also, music worked fine under V9 but not under V10. I will persist with these issues as it will give me something to do of an evening. Nothing like embarking upon a new learning curve – learning can be fun – having trouble convincing my students of this concept.
Also, just to let you know that I will post some more photos from my trip to Jerry's village “Bamata” (near Finschhafen).
NB: An email just arrived from a friend downunder whom I met through the blog – he lived in Lae as a kid and still holds very dear his memories of growing up in PNG. This friend whom shall remain anonymous has had ample experience with Linux and says:
