The above image is from an old Lae UBD Directory. The red dot that you can see is the corner of Cassia and Casuarina. Why the interest in this particular address in Eriku? A few months ago I made contact with a Tony – from Melbourne – actually Tony made contact with me through this blog. It turns out that Tony grew up in Lae during the 70's and although Tony has never returned to Lae, he does have some very fond memories of his PNG experience.
I offered Tony to take some “snaps” of some of his old haunts and he took me up on the offer. So far I have taken photos of his old school and now is old home and street. These photos can be found in the Eriku photo album.
Anyone else out there that is an ex Lae resident and would like to see what certain parts of the town now look like – I am more than happy to go and take some photos for you. I can be contacted at wanbel@trupela.com.
