A few thoughts in point form follow:
- Sunday's are tops! Cooked banana and pineapple panckaes this morning for breakfast after sleeping in till about 9:30am. The pancakes were delicious.
- Have done away with MS Outlook as my mail client and replaced it with Mozilla Thunderbird. On installation automatically imported mail and addresses from Outlook. I'm impressed!!
- The potholes in Lae are the biggest and the “best” in the business. Pollies aught to be embarassed. I dont' think they are. Disgusting. Some of the biggest and “best” potholes can be found on UNITECH campus – makes you wonder what the priorities of management are around here. Interesting… have'nt spotted the VC for ages. Where could he be?
- My life beyond 2006 is up in the air. This subject currently consumes a fair amount of thinking energy. I kind of don't want to think about it but I know I will have to. An opportunity to perhaps trust the “process”. I'm sure there will be ample opportunity for letting go.
- Last Friday night Eli and myself had a “fight”. She decided to wander home at 10:00pm and got as far as the sporting fields (about 100m away) where some drunk boys started to hassle her and follow her – she made the right decision and came back home quick smart. In fact in frightened the shit out of her. I kind of kick myself for letting her wander off. Still have to report this incident to campus security.
- Vollie mate Kevin (from Aiyura) was in Lae yesterday – something about a fundraising dinner at the Lae International for Aiyura High School. He ended up “crashing” at Anthony's (next door) – who was off to Madang for the weekend. Kev's a good bloke but boy can he talk.
- This coming week is exam week. Hard work for the students and marking for the staff. I'm lucky as I have only 20 papers to work through.
- Holidays! Yes… have decided to head away a few days during the break. Will be going with Eli up to “Kaubasis” (her fathers village in Simbu). This will be my 1st trip to her dad's village and I'm really looking forward to it. My friend Jethro is currently in Germany and now that I think about it – he should be back in PNG any day. Jethro told me before heading OS that the boys back at Wagang-Luhu are building me a beach hut! If I catch Jethro over the next little while I'm also heading back to Waganag-Luhu for a few days in my very own beach hut to chill/veg out and cruise !
- Towards the end of July there will be a volunteers gathering at Loloata – an island just of the coast from Moresby. This is a yearly event when all volunteers in PNG gather for a workshop and some good old fashioned networking (meaning : lots of drinking!!).
- I still reckon that the fruit and veg in PNG is the best!! I can already taste that pineapple and fresh coconut juiceI'm going to demolish when I get home.
- And yes… I don't get woken up on Sunday's by that raving preacher anymore! He still rants and raves (as do I) but I think that I must have gotten used to the noise (just like living next to a train line!!).
- Hope you all had a top Sunday.
