Watch out for that bend just ahead !!

With the Internet here at UNITECH still running like a f&*^ing dog it
has become next to impossible for me to post any photos to the blog.
Basically, I'm almost ready to give up on this one.

Last night I attended my 3rd Rotary meeting (Did you say… Rotary?) at
the Lae International Hotel. The Rotary club of Lae meets every Tuesday
evening at the hotel and membership is predominantly male. Business is
conducted over a meal and some drinks. Some of the members include local
business people, doctors, bank managers and executive types etc… It is
standard for a visitor to be inducted as a member on their 3rd meeting.
So there you go – I am now a member of the local Rotary Club. A decent
bunch of blokes basically doing their bit and helping those in need.

The UNITECH Cultural show is scheduled to start this coming Friday and
will run for three days until the Sunday. The air is “buzzing” and many
of the student sing-sing groups have been practicing of an evening and
the roars and the drum beats can be heard all over campus. The energy
levels seem to be rising with every day that passes. I am really looking
forward to the show and seeing the students showcase their local dances
and song. It's promising to be quite an gig!!

In the meantime I am marking… marking… marking…
Everything else about teaching I absolutely love; but the marking of
tests or assignments etc… drives me absolutely nuts. Better times
just around the corner…

With my contract here at UNITECH finishing at the end of this year and
having made a decision to stay on in PNG I have started looking around
for work opportunities. There are presently about 6 leads which I am
actively chasing up and have submitted 3x formal applications to
prospective employers. I feel very much at a crossroads and am not yet
entirely sure where the next turn is going to take me. When the crow
sings you will be the 1st to hear.

Tis almost 4:30pm and its been a long day. I can feel my tongue calling
out for a coffee and my head's wanting to read some newspaper.

Stuff the marking… I'm heading home !!
