…after yesterday's visit to Wagang-Luhu. In the end I had close to a three hour wait at the Rainbow Store in town for the PMV/truck. I started waiting at around 9:30am and left Lae in the PMV at around 12:30pm. The wait went very quickly – as around the Rainbow Store there are many street sellers and colourful characters. Not once was I waiting on my own – good old fashioned PNG interaction filled up the time and before I knew it (well after 3 hours) the PMV turned up.
It turned out to be a quick trip up to Wagang-Luhu and a quick trip back. I was sitting down at home with a nice hot cup of coffee by 5:30pm. A long day considering I only got to spend between 5 and 10mins with Jethro (village clan elder), it basically enough time to give him some groceries which I had picked up in town, apologise for not being able to stay and shake a few hands with the “clan”. The PMV that took me up to Jethro's village was also the PMV that took me back to Lae town.
A few hours away from campus helped clean out some of my “stinking” thinking. The bumpy ride in the PMV, the crossing of three rivers and seeing Jethro and his family was enough to forget about, for a few hours, some of the things that have recently been on my mind.
In the meantime… back to the “slog”.
(The merry-go-round just keeps whirling around and around and around….)
