The students are angry at the death of their brother and colleague, the one whom was shot at one of the local clubs last Friday night. There is also much pain and tears as the students and the family of Robin (the boy whom was shot) grieve the loss of their son and brother.
The students are angry and have petitioned the University Administration for the re-instatement of licensed premises on campus. In addition to the petition they have also decided to go on strike until the end of this week or until their demands are met.
I managed to capture some photos of the students this past Monday and Tuesday. Things seem to be settling down as the “Haus Krai” takes place but things were certainly very tense Monday and Tuesday of this week.
The decision by UNITECH management and their subsequent response to the student petition remains to be seen. Depending on management's reponse the situation here on campus could improve or potentially get much worse. Time will reveal more. In the meantime I still have a wheelbarrow full of papers to mark!
Photos so far are in the Student strike September 2006 photo album.
