Last week…
I was inducted into the Rotary Club of Lae by the District Governor. The club meets every Tuesday evening at the Lae International Hotel and I plan to attend the weekly meetings from now on.
A truly excellent avenue for providing a service to the local community. Also, an opportunity for me to network and mix with some of the local business people. This is one area that has challenged me : the socialising and mixing with the local ex-pat community. I have found it easier over the past 18 months to mix and meet with Papua New Guineans, in a way I have avoided the local white folks. But… balance in all things – as “they” say.
I do recogonise the need for me to interact occasionally with my own “kind”, living so far away from home. Joining and attending Rotary meeting, I suppose is my attempt at achieving this social balance. The service side of the clubs is also pretty neat.
