Is the mumu pit !!
Even Mr and Mrs Oink – or “Prof” and “Princess” will eventually end up like all other pigs in PNG… being slaughtered and eaten.
“Prof” and “Princess” have departed the pothole riddled environment of academia and left for greener pastures. Yesterday we carried them over to West Taraka and they will be living with “Kessna” and “Warra” – a couple fo Eli's relo's. Considering that all pigs in PNG end up on the chopping block – the “Oinks” are doing OK. From a village in Simbu to a University campus and now on to a settlement. As far as a PNG pig is concerned a pretty exciting existence – would'nt you agree?
Frankly I was sorry to see them go and although I didn't shed a tear as we walked them over to the wild west – I did feel a little queezy in the stomach. The two months or so that I looked after them – we did connect in a way and Eli used to say to me that I was a natural! My vollie mate Geoff used to say that I wasn't fit to live with pigs but he has since changed his mind.
It was fun to have the Oinks around at home and to look after them. They are surprisingly very smart animals and I seem to remember reading somewhere that they can learn twice as many tricks as dogs. So there you go.
Note that I did not give them away but have just organised another home for them. With my imminent departure from UNITECH next month I needed to find a new home for them before heading down to Sydney for the xmas break.
They'll just be calling some else Dad… oink… oink… oink…
