Farwell to my colleagues…

…from Business Studies.

A few of my colleagues from within the department were kind enough to organise a farewell for those of us leaving UNITECH (thanks a million). The gathering was held last night (Thursday) at Anthony's place (next door) and most staff from Business Studies turned up with their partners on the evening. The food was as good as a feast – everyone was asked to bring along a plate and their own drinks. The evening was strictly alcohol free. Needless to say that the topers never fronted, although they were spotted driving past the house a couple of times, singing along to the tune of a PNG song.

A special thanks to all those people in Business Studies that I worked with over the past 20 months. Your friendliness, hospitality and caring will always be remembered. Although department morale has been in a steady state of decline since the beginning of 2006 – a core group of staff did manage to maintain  professional, productive and friendly working relationships. It is the first time in my working career that I have experienced an attempt by management to destroy a team. Apart from myself – four other members of staff within the department will also be leaving – this exodus is basically proof that something is drastically amiss. Lack of leadership and sheer incompetency are at the root of the problem. I have coined this general lack of competency within University Administration as the “collusion of incompetence”. Read what you like into this.

That's enough negative raving for one post !!

It is now time for me to start wrapping up the Lae story/chapter and to start a new one. I find that there is always a sadness and to a degree twinges of grief associated with leaving and saying goodbye to a place and it's people. Lae is certainly no exception. And as I acknowledge, experience and then let go of the sadness, an excitement appears within the horizon of my gut and I look forward to the on-going adeventure of this journey called life.

Hip-hip-hooray !!!

NB: Golliwogs rule and the pope is definitely a catholic (Should pope be in upper-case?).
