The night rain is music to the ears.
One of the things I love about living in Lae are the nighttime showers. With Lae copping anywhere between 5m and 6m of rainfall a year – the nightly downpours are exquisite. There are times when I can hear the rain actually coming, I have never experienced this anywhere else. I'll be sitting outside at home and I start to hear this ever so quiet rumble and then it starts to build as it gets closer. When it really pours – the sound of the approaching rain can almost be deafening.
Absolutely beautiful!
Another weather phenomenon that I have observed in Lae is the rolling thunder. Electrical storms are plentiful and there are times when one can see the lightning but not hear the thunder but there are also times when lightning strikes and then moments later the thunder starts to roll. I timed it once going on for a whole minute.
