Goroka…

Here we come!! Early tomorrow I will be leaving Lae and heading up to Goroka for the weekend. This will be my 2nd visit to this Eastern Highlands town and on this occasion I will be travelling with Eli. I am certainly looking forward to a couple of days away from campus and immersing myself with the locals and also the cooler climate

A box of “goodies” is on it’s way !

My brother John and his wife Therese have been kind enough to gather some 2nd hand kids clothes, throw them into a box and send them over.See! That’s how easy it is : throw some clothes or toys or whatever into a box and just send them over!

I am happy to say…

After 20 odd phone calls and 4 days of being a pain in the arse, I now have voicemail activated on my PNG mobile #

What really pisses me off living and working in PNG? Having to chase things up 2 3 4 10 times. It seems to be the norm here that when you organise for something to be done it is assumed that the job in hand or task will need to chased up again and again and again!!!

West Taraka – “The Wild West”

About a 15 min walk from the University’s main gate (Unigate) is the suburb or settlement of West Taraka. The locals commonly refer to West Taraka as the “Wild West”

Saturday…

Today I headed into Lae town with Eli – my “dearest” of PNG friends. This photo was taken at the Melanesian Hotel over a pot of freshly brewed coffee. It’s a new experience for me to walk around town with a female friend, the interaction with the locals is definitely different
