PNG politics!

PNG politics shits me!!

Headlines in the two national papers
this morning read as follows:

“The National”: State of Emergency invalid. Court reinstates Southern
Highlands Province Government. The Supreme Court has declared the State of Emergency (SoE) in
Southern Highlands Province invalid.

“Post Courier”: Chief laughs it off. Defiant PM dares union
leaders to race with him for Sepik seat.

It shits me no end to see what politicians are doing to Papua New Guinea.
There appears to be a critical mass of both politicians and bureaucrats that
are only concerned in filling their own pockets. The smart ones know how to
work the system so that they get away with horrendous acts of pillage and rape
and somehow manage to retain an undisputed popularity with the nation and its people.

And whilst these “big men” continue to do what they do, the
masses continue to suffer and go without and cry.

When will PNG get a leader that cares for something other
than the fatness of their wallets? Will things be any different after the
upcoming elections around the middle of 2007? No way in a million years!
Candidates are now lining up, oblivious to the plight the average Papua New
Guinean, ready to pounce on the golden goose. The PNG people will continue to
be conned and robbed for many years yet. The “smart” ones know this all too
well. With the South East Asians now on the pillage band wagon the rate of
extraction from PNG will start to increase. The social fabric will continue to
deteriorate, infrastructures will continue to fall apart and when the average
Papua New Guinean finally wakes up, it will be too late.
