The Volunteer experience…

Why did I become a volunteer?

The “Hut”!

The “Hut” or our Dream Home is coming along nicely. Work is progressing in earnest and we have been told that the basic structure is now complete. Uncle Joel was around earlier this week to pickup some more nails and mentioned that some of the villagers will be starting on the roof within the next few days

I have a new friend…

A slingshot!! Made for me by Uncle Joel

An article that I recently submitted to the Hospital Magazine

It’s been a little over two years since I first landed at Jackson’s Airport in Port Moresby. When I first
arrived in PNG I had absolutely no idea what to expect and to be honest I was scared out of my wits. The Australian media and the Government’s travel advisory body describe Papua New Guinea as a hostile, dangerous and conflict riddled part of the Pacific

Photos…

Finally getting my act together as far as photos. You should see around four new photos posted most days

Thanks to my nieces back at home

A local girl has just had her education fees paid for until the end of this year!

“Community living”

As Eli washes Isaac,
Mama Olgan makes a fire,
Uncle Joel plants bananas,
And I cook breakfast.

I forgot to mention…

Yesterday, the US Ambassador to PNG visited Goroka General Hospital. A huge event for the Hospital; Board members and management all wearing their Sunday best, also for the Hospital staff and anyone else in the vicinity at the
time of the diplomats visit

First time for everything!

We got broken into last night. The thieves climbed over the fence and stole our water pump and in the process destroyed the water supply to the house. We know it happened around midnight because Eli heard some dogs barking and going off about that time

“Crook”

The clock ticks,
And the pendulum swings.
The merry go round,
Just keeps spinning.
