A vision…

Is evolving! Unwilling to say anymore at this point in time. To the three people (out of 6 billion possible) that read my blog on a regular basis

Mt Kerekonma – a mountain in dispute

The following story appeared in last weeks edition of The National newspaper. The story centers around a current dispute in Eli’s village over the ownership of a lot of land that has a communications tower on it

The dancing pissheads…

Last month I visited Eli’s village in Simbu and our visit coincided with the 2007 Kaubasis School Fete. We stayed a night and it rained and it rained – the ground everywhere was slippery, wet and heaps muddy. Slosh – slosh -slosh!!

“Nothing much”

When there’s nothing much to write
and little to say.
When I feel the need to post
and share my day

An unusual encounter with a PNG artist.

Yesterday whilst doing pizza and coffee at The Bird, a PNG male yells out to us from one of the other tables, it sounded like: “I’m not a priest, I’m not a priest”. He was with a mate and they both appeared under the weather

Almost a village visit!

We left home at around 8:30am this morning and were planning to catch a PMV from the main markets and head out to the village at Kaubasis. We had arranged to meet Uncle Joel at the “Hut” and pay for some cane matting made by one of the locals which is to be used for the walls and ceilings

PNG corruption…

At its best (or perhaps at its worst) PNG politicians that participate in corruption do so openly and without shame. The sad and angry part of it all is that the system appears helpless and fails to really do anything about it

“Elections PNG style”

The intensity builds
singsing,
bilas,
and gatherings.

Something I never want to get used to…

Is the sound of domestic violence. A couple of nights ago we could here the next door neighbours go off. A long drinking session, lots of singing and laughing. Then a lull and some quiet

Barbie doll giveaway…

One of the boxes (full of give-away goodies) I received from the folks back at home last year whilst working and living in Lae contained a bag full of Barbie dolls. Last Saturday we had a visit from the the daughter of our neighbour, the young visitor and girls name: Hayleen
