Something I never want to get used to…

Is the sound of domestic violence.

A couple of nights ago we could here the next door neighbours go off. A long drinking session, lots of singing and laughing. Then a lull and some quiet. The yelling and arguing starts – thump, thump and thump – the sound of someone getting hit followed by the screams and the crying. More thump, thump, thump and more crying. Lots of arguing and swearing. Drunken logic. Started fun like and ended up in a brawl.

Eli found out the next day that the woman had been slashed across the head and face by her bush knife wielding husband. Ugly stuff. Domestic violence – shocking, abusive and violent.

Ironic how abusers and victims continue to be drawn to each other. One can't survive without the other. Even more ironic is how the victim keeps coming back. One of the paradoxes of human nature.

And our neighbours?

She stayed away for a night. The husband went out today and bought some chickens and food for a BBQ. Tonight everyone seems happy again. But for how long? Yes, and I almost forgot, as well as the chickens – the husband bought some beers too. Going by the noise coming from next door – everything is sweet.

But for how long? When will the abuser strike again?

The way humans violate each other – takes on many forms. Micro violence or macro violence… who cares? It's all violence in the end.

Humans… here on the earth for the long haul!!
