Internet in PNG…

Is slow and expensive!

Lasty night we partied and danced…

Until the wee hours !!

BBQ a la “Mamboo” style…

Last night we ate like kings!

“Mamboo” is a style of PNG cuisine that basically involves stuffing a piece of bamboo with goodies and then throwing it on to the fire for an hour or so. Uncle Joel was staying with us for a couple of nights and last night we had a feast for dinner. One of the best things about living in the PNG Highlands is the cheap and easy access to a range and selection of vegetables that are just superb

Eli's liklik market….

Eli has been working a little market of late, ice blocks mainly but occasionally some buai too. The ice blocks Eli sells are the best in the business, sweeter, colder and juicier than the competition

Rotary…

Have finally managed to make contact with the local Rotary Club and have attended meetings over the past month. The Club is currently busy organising the “Tru-Kai” fun run

“Gelo – the shoe eater!”

“Gelo” our dog

Home a la Gonix…

First bunch of photos of our home at Gonix in Goroka. We both love it here, the space, the gardens and mostly quiet neighbours. The vegetable patches, flower gardens and general landscaping had obvioulsy been done by a previous dedicated resident. Eli has taken charge of the garden and loves to potter during the day, she has already planted about 10 different types of vegies and about a dozen varieties of flowers. “Gelo” – the dog occasionally goes beserk and has been known to dig huge “pits” right in the middle of where he’s not meant to. Don’t worry the poor animal has already copped his fair share of beltings

Overt corruption in front of their very eyes!

There are many times when I read any one of the PNG national newspapers and get angry as hell. An article in todays “The National” was one such instance. The scallywag and thug type behaviour that PNG politicians and bureaucrats get away with is unbelievable

More photos from the "Hut"…

I have posted all the photos of the “hut” and building “crew” I took yesterday out at the village

Site inspection!

Today I visited Kaubasis to check out the “Hut” and it was the 1st time I travelled to the village on my lonesome. Our “dream” home is definitely starting to take shape. Pastor Joseph can be seen in the above photo working on the front entrance. Uncle Joel and “crew” have fairly well stuck to the original plan as per our design. It was unreal when I rocked up this morning and as I approached the site I cold feel butterflies in the stomach. Absolutely magic!
