After much anticipation and some nerves - Mum has finally arrived in PNG! It’s sure been a hectic few days - not even enough time to post a lousy blog!
Nevermind… I’m back!
So far:
23/8 (last Thursday) - we head down to Lae in a Nissan Navara 4WD - my first drive in PNG!
24/8 (last Friday) - general running around town and basically taking advantage of having wheels.
25/8 (last Saturday) - I head out to Lae airport and have checked in by 6:15am. The flight is delayed by six hours! Finally make it to Moresby half hour before Mum lands. Mum arrives…

…and we fly to Lae together. Eli and her sister Lena are there to meet us…

We head back to UNITECH and drop Mum of at Kirsten’s where she will be staying a few nights. Later that evening we head over to Roger’s for a film night to mix with some friendly faces.
26/8 (last Sunday) - We head into West Taraka for the day and Mum get’s to meet Eli’s parents and the rest of the Lae crew…
27/8 (last Monday) - we head out to Wagang-Luhu to visit Jethro and the clan. The 4WD gets a working over and we only got bogged once! Mum also gets to experience her first PNG road block on our way back to Lae (almost as good as a hold-up!). Monday evening we head to Lae top town for a dinner at the Lae International with my dear friend Sidia.
28/8 (yesterday) - we leave Lae and head up the Highlands H’Way. Home sweet home!!
29/8 (today) - we take advantage of the 4WD and head out to Kaubasis and Mum gets to see the “Hut”. We leave Eli father’s village at around 4pm and drive to Eli’s mother’s village to see bubu Kandoni at Fatao village.
Pheew…. that’s it - now up to date with the blogging!
Tomorrow the Nissan goes back… cry / cry / cry !!
I will try and post as many photos as I can as fast as I can. You can view them all in the “Mum’s visit 2007” photo album.
