IMR…

That stands for ¨Institute of Medical Research¨.

This is where I am at the moment (2:20pm) connected to their (almost) broadband ISP connection. I can get rather anal about having my personal laptop updated and patched at the latest levels. The Windows side of things is fairly well under control but it is the Linux side of things that has got my attention.

I recently installed Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty) on my laptop (dual boot) and of course there is a whole bunch of updates that need to go on – in fact about 200mbs to be precise. If I did this over my piddly 56kbps dial-up from home, I would end up using a monthś worth of subscription in one night. By the way… when was the last time anyone downloaded 200mbs worth of data over a dial-up?

So here I am at IMR – connected from my laptop via a 802.11 wireless connection to the Institute´s broadband Internet Service – patching my Ubuntu installation to the latest. And whilst the 0´s and 1´s are busy racing down the wire – here I am blogging.

Thought you might like to know that – a couple of hours in the sometimes mundane, sometimes exciting life of Trupela Tok.

Click IMR if you would like to know more about their work.
