Some of the rewards…

I have been running some IT Training courses here at Goroka General Hospital which all got of the ground about six weeks ago. “Introduction to Computers and OpenOffice” to be precise. Four groups have started so far with the fourth having started this morning. So today's been a teaching day - draining but nevertheless rewarding - very rewarding in fact.

Out of the 10 staff that started this morning - 8 had never used or touched a PC in their lives. By 3:30PM this afternoon they were turning their PC on, logging in and using a Touch Typing Tutor (Klavaro). From no knowledge to touch typing in roughly 5 hours!!

(All using OpenSource!!)

And as I was walking the room and watching them work - I could see the look on their faces. My reward for working today - was that very look - a look of excitement, curiosity, nervousness and achievement!!  Well worth the few hundred hours that went into writing the course material!!

Well worth it all round!!!

And so it is at 4:53pm on the 29th of November, 2007 for R@P
