I posted a short story yesterday titled: ” Over the weekend…“. This story tells how three members of the same family died over the weekend in what was believed to be sorcery related.
A disturbing comment was left by an anonymous reader in response to the above post…
“this is bullshit.
i am not impressed that you have gone and posted such a traumatic event online.
you are talking about my family here…either remove it or trouble will come your way”
My response:
1) Firstly this is my blog and it is my right to share my experiences and opinions on any topic I choose (freedom of speech).
2) Having said that… it is certainly not my intention to offend any readers.
3) “Sanguma” (or sorcery) is part and parcel of PNG culture – especially here in the Highlands.
4) I have run my story by relatives of the deceased (who I happened to be related to by marriage) and they are not offended.
5) If the reader in question remains offended then they are free to contact me (see contact details on this blog) to discuss the issue offline.
6) If in the end there is a genuine reason for removing the story from the blog – I will gladly do this.
