A weekend away…

This weekend we are of to “Wara-guma” !

I'm certainly looking forward to a couple of nights away from home and Goroka town. As I've mentioned in previous posts - I always feel
refreshed and energised after a couple of days at the “hut”.

Each time we head out we always draw up a shopping list of what we need to bring with us the next visit. The current list has is as follows and these items will be travelling with us on Saturday morning:

- 1x axe (for splitting that much needed firewood).
- Some mantles for the Coleman (one helluva kerosene lamp)
- A screw for the Coleman (mantle holder).
- Some wicks for the “el cheapo” kerosene lamps.
- Matches.
- Hand pump for pumping up the volleyball!
- Dust-pan.
- The mandatory toilet-paper!
- Ledger for Uncle Russell to start keeping the books for the
Association.
- Four lots of photos for various locals.
- 8x Information kits which I have put together (1x per clan) in
preparation for our meeting on Sunday with the elders from Keto.
- Coffee, coffee mate and sugar (lots of it).
- Some gift packs to give to some of the local seniors (eg: soap, salt,
rice and some oil).
- Some food for us.
- Ah yes… and a container with enough kerosene for two nights.
- And of course a spare set of dacks!!

On top of all the above - Manam (the cat) always travels with us when we “escape” to the hills. He's the best little rat/mouse catcher this side of longitude 99. The crunching sound as he munches away on yet another catch has become a normal event in our lives.
