I gave myself a birthday present this week… a domain name!
It has been on my list for some time to move/migrate my blog
(Trupela Tok) to a new provider. The blogging engine that my
Provider uses (Domain Direct) is called Blogware – once upon a time a blogging engine to be reckoned with but unfortunately nowadays on the decline. Two blogging engines that have positioned themselves at the lead of the race are Wordpress and Movable Type. The whole business of moving the blog or to new blogging engine for that matter is by no means a trivial task.
My aim is to eventually have a web page as a front end with the blog sitting somewhere in the background. My new provider Bluehost has a tonne of web applications available for install and as soon as I have something to show I will probably make a link available from the blog to the new website. As to how I move a blogware blog to a Wordpress blog remains to be seen. One of the major issues are the photos and how to bring them across into Wordpress – at this stage I am thinking about moving them all to Flickr.com and making them available on Wordpress using what are commonly known as plugins and/or widgets – essentially links from Wordpress to the Flickr website.
By the way… “trupela” is an adjective in tok pisin meaning: true, fair dinkum, dinky-di, etc… I was stunned when I found out it was still available.
Anyway, enough computerise for one post!
It’s been a tough week work wise – one frustration after a another and it amazes me at times how anything works at all in this country. I hang in there and even the hopelessness that arises from the frustration it too will pass. I focus back on my motto: chip, chip, chip… slowly but surely : any progress, however small is still progress. There are times (like this week) when I feel that my level of patience is being stretched well beyond the known. Any dealings with government departments including PNG bureaucracies is the epitome of efficiency.
I have a situation with Telikom PNG at present – an application for a data service – forms getting lost, folks never in the office and being told blatant lies just to palm me off, not to mention the phone calls
that are never returned. Something back in Oz that would take a few days at most – ends up taking weeks or months in this place.
Thank god it’s Friday!
As soon as I bury myself in mechanics and doings of “trupela” I will slowly forget what all the fuss was about. And that’s what I’m going to do at the end of this post – get on the net and surf like a mad man on heat.
Amazing what we end up doing… just to forget!
And in the morning it will all be there again! Except it’s the weekend.
Yeehaaah!
Kets
NB: By the way I have started posting photos, from our trip up to Madang late last year, these can be viewed in the “Visit November 2007” photo album…

That’s all folks!
Over and out!!
Going, going… gone…
“.”
