Phew…!!
(You can say that again)
After carrying K27,000 in cash into the village on Friday and then distributing payment directly to all coffee growers yesterday, we made it safely back to Goroka.
It sure was a bit of a wild one.
The cash in the bilum syndrome isn’t something I want to repeat very often. Although a somewhat nerve racking episode – in the end it was well worth the anxiety – all locals got paid every single cent that was owed to them and the whole coffee buying/selling process went down without any major drama.
I have a bunch of snaps which I will post in due course – including a photo of the cash when I picked it up from the local bank. And a poem I wrote whilst standing in the fuckin bank queue for three hours (yes I did say fuckin queue!).
But I’m going to leave it there as I want to shower and do some other stuff on the net before having an early night…
Hopefully!!
