Tropfest 2008 a la Lae!

Finally a post about something other than blogging…

Tenk yu ya!!

Although the spate of blogging articles that I have posted in the past couple of weeks has certainly had a positive impact on my stats, there exists hundreds (if not thousands) of blogs and websites out there that are already doing a fantastic job of writing on this topic.

If I do a search on Google for “blogs about blogging” - I get the following response from the search master…

Results 1 - 10 of about 11,300,000 for blogs about blogging. (0.21 seconds)

So lets move on to something, in my view, slightly more relevant to the theme and gist of this blog…

To be more precise Tropfest 2008…

Wikipedia describes the Tropfest film festivalas follows:

The Tropfest short film festival is held in Sydney, Australia each year. Sydney hosts the live event which is then broadcast live via satellite to venues in Canberra, Brisbane, Perth, Hobart, Melbourne and Adelaide.

The festival’s name is derived from the first year’s location — the Tropicana Cafe in Darlinghurst, an inner-eastern suburb of Sydney. Created by John Polson, the first festival was held in 1993 with the films projected onto a blank wall and was called the Tropicana Short Film Festival in that first year.

and…

Each film must be no longer than seven minutes, have never been shown publicly before and contain the Tropfest Signature Item,
which in 2008 was ‘8’(could be anything that incorporates an eight) to
show that the film was made specifically for the festival.

What has a film festival got to do with me? Good question!

It has become an excuse (or a good reason) for an annual get together (film night come piss-up) down at UNITECH in Lae. Originally started by Jeremy (of http://pnglife.blogspot.com/ fame) the tradition has been preserved since his departure from UNITECH and PNG late 2005.

A few months ago I got an email from Roger (who has by default inherited the mantle for organising the Lae Tropfest film festival) asking me if per chance I had a copy of the Tropfest 2008 DVD. No copy unfortunately but I told him that I would put a request on the blog - just in case there were any readers out there whom happened to have a spare copy and were generous enough to stick it in post and send it of to Papua New Guinea.

Post as it appeared on my blog 3rd of May, 2008…

Tropfest 2008

Anyone have a spare copy they can send me?

A tradition started a few years ago at in by Australian Jeremy D. It was always a great excuse for a get together of the “crew”, watch and have a few ales to round of the social aspect of the evening.

If you are able to help out and donate/send a DVD with 2008 - your kind action will be greatly appreciated by many.
