At times it only seems like yesterday when I desperately wanted to grow up (different to those other times when I wander when the hell am I going to grow up!).
And on this particular Saturday, my favourite day of the week, as we walked into Goroka town this morning to do some shopping – I took some time to reflect – as one does occasionally.
4:00pm and I’m still reflecting…
So with Laptop in hand and a loan of your ear I’m going to share with you (and get of my chest) 10 things that have gone through my mind since I got up this morning:
- How sometimes I miss the old days when I could go a whole day with out talking to or interacting with another person!
- Why it is that it’s going to be next impossible to get some bucks out of AUSAID to extend the IT Project at the Hospital and give the staff a decent patient records system. It’s so dam obvious at times that the motives behind giving aid to a country such as PNG is very non kosha.
- I reflect on australian consultants earning $20k a month plus (tax free) and the logic and reasoning behind their advice.
- Why is it that young blond australian volunteer females are asked by the Governor to go for helicopter rides and I can’t even get the bloke to buy me a beer!
- How am I going to entertain the folks tonight after accepting an invitation to do a short comedy segment at a fund raising coffee night for a local rugby club.
- Why is it that a cabbage in Port Moresby can cost up to K10 and here in the Highlands you can pick one up for next to nothing.
- What about my future? (now here’s a topic worthy of extensive reflection) – yes what about my future? What will happen beyond February 2008 when my current contract at the Hospital runs out?
- And Eli… my sweetheart, love and best friend. Her operation and whether kids will ever come our way (one way or another).
- The street boys of Goroka and the other things that give me solace in this country.
- And finally, the intensity of it all and how desperately I need to get back into my meditation.
