Goroka reflections and how time flies

At times it only seems like yesterday when I desperately wanted to grow up (different to those other times when I wander when the hell am I going to grow up!).

And on this particular Saturday, my favourite day of the week, as we walked into Goroka town this morning to do some shopping - I took some time to reflect - as one does occasionally.

4:00pm and I’m still reflecting…

So with Laptop in hand and a loan of your ear I’m going to share with you (and get of my chest) 10 things that have gone through my mind since I got up this morning:

  1. How sometimes I miss the old days when I could go a whole day with out talking to or interacting with another person!
  2. Why it is that it’s going to be next impossible to get some bucks out of AUSAID to extend the IT Project at the Hospital and give the staff a decent patient records system. It’s so dam obvious at times that the motives behind giving aid to a country such as PNG is very non kosha.
  3. I reflect on australian consultants earning $20k a month plus (tax free) and the logic and reasoning behind their advice.
  4. Why is it that young blond australian volunteer females are asked by the Governor to go for helicopter rides and I can’t even get the bloke to buy me a beer!
  5. How am I going to entertain the folks tonight after accepting an invitation to do a short comedy segment at a fund raising coffee night for a local rugby club.
  6. Why is it that a cabbage in Port Moresby can cost up to K10 and here in the Highlands you can pick one up for next to nothing.
  7. What about my future? (now here’s a topic worthy of extensive reflection) - yes what about my future? What will happen beyond February 2008 when my current contract at the Hospital runs out?
  8. And Eli… my sweetheart, love and best friend. Her operation and whether kids will ever come our way (one way or another).
  9. The street boys of Goroka and the other things that give me solace in this country.
  10. And finally, the intensity of it all and how desperately I need to get back into my meditation.
