After my recent post “A News Aggregator is a must” I have decided to introduce a regular segment called: “The best of News Feeds”. This new addition will basically entail a summary of news stories that I have read via my newsreader and found to be of interest. I figure if it’s of interest to me it might very well be of interest to someone else out there. Some of the feeds that I subscribe to are technical whilst others relate directly to Papua New Guinea through Blogs written by locals, a bit of a mixed bag really.

Brendon from Making the Web: Populate The Web: Real-Time Website Traffic Map
I just stumbled upon this website about 20 minutes ago, and still haven’t left. Basically, it shows you a fascinating map of the world and a live of view of the hits from across the internet.
If you own a website or a blog, you can also add your own website to the system, and your hits will be counted on the homepage, and your very own map.

Web 2.0 is nothing more than some tools and ideas working together to make the internet a more user friendly and easier world to maneuver. Think about all of the new ideas to come to the internet in the last few years.

Jeff Elkner teaches high school students in Arlington, Va., about Linux and other Free Software. He’s serious about helping budding computer scientists understand what FOSS is and what it can do for them, and he’s one of those guys who always seems to be sharing his knowledge with others. One of Elkner’s latest efforts, the Open Book Project, is a good illustration of his philosophy about sharing ideas and knowledge, which he says is similar to that of one of his heroes, Free Software advocate Richard Stallman.
