The magnificence of Simbu bilas

Simbu bilas is absolutely magnificent to say the least. The three photos below were taken by an Australian photographer Richard Kendall over the weekend of the Goroka Show 2008.

Eli made a decision to bilas on the Sunday morning and with the help from a couple of aunties and a papa from the village she was transformed over the period of a couple of hours into confident, proud and stunning Simbu beauty. It was Eli’s first time in bilas and we were fortunate to have a young australian photographer take photos of the “bilasim” process.

All of the photos of Eli as she was being dressed in traditional bilas and other photos of female members of the clan in bilas can be viewed in the Goroka Show 2008 by Richard Kendall photo album

Very nice pics…certainly ones that you can hang on the wall at home.
