Another parcel arrived in the post last week! After receiving a box from Mum about three weeks ago I feel like October must surely be our lucky month. The family back home have demonstrated their caring and generosity once again. Like always the folks here in Goroka fortunate enough to be given an item from the lucky dip are eternally grateful as I’m sure you will all appreciate from the photos below and also other photos in these albums.
As with all the give-away parcels the joy and reward in giving “things” away is beyond words.
The parcels sent to me by family and friends from home are truly appreciated – in fact more than what you will ever know. When I give something from one of these gift boxes and I see the look on peoples faces and their gratitude – I feel deep down that I am living my dream and fulfilling a higher purpose.
The parcel that arrived last week from John, Therese and family…

(Parcel from John, Therese and family that I picked up last week from the Post Office)
With this inside…

(The contents: PC Mag, a Schilthorn cap, a dutch cook book and a cheerful card from the “gals”)
I was particularly tickled pink by the Schilthorn Cap – something the family picked abroad after a recent tour of the continent whilst visiting our very own “Schilt” mountain.
As I normally do after a Post Office visit (post or no post) I pop into the local bank (as one does when goes to town around these parts) – big mistake! Each time I open one of these parcels I get teary eyed and getting emotional in a public place such as a bank queue is perhaps not the ideal place to open gift parcels from the family downunder.
By the way, I have decided to hang on to the Schilthorn cap for own pretty myself!!. The cookbook? Sorry folks but Eli took one look at that and claimed it instantly!!) Note: the cookbook comes from a cousin in Holland (Anneke) who gave four to my brother and family when they were recently in Holland.
And here’s that look of gratitude on peoples faces as they are given something…

(Uncle Russell from the village receives one of the torches that Mum sent in a box a few weeks ago)
All of the stuff in this box from Therese and other parcels sent by family and friends from Oz will slowly be distributed and given away over time. Initially, I would give everything away in one go – nowadays I wait for the right moment and then zoom to bedroom cupboard and pull out something from one of the parcels and give it to a local in exchange for one of those special smiles. Also, we take stuff to the village in Kaubasis and do the same.
Thanks a million (and one) John, Therese and girls!!
As with all of the parcels I receive from the folks downunder I maintain a log/record of what is sent. To have a squizz at this record/log and other information on the wishlist/give-away gig you can click here.
