WordPress and Kaizen

A long time friend recently sent me an email in which he used the word “Kaizen“. You might be thinking what the heck is “Kaizen” (as I did when I first saw the word) and how does it relate to WordPress or blogging?

As explained by Wikipedia:

Kaizen (改善, Japanese for “continuous improvement”) is a Japanese philosophy that focuses on continuous improvement throughout all aspects of life. When applied to the workplace, Kaizen activities continually improve all functions of a business, from manufacturing to management and from the CEO to the assembly line workers.By improving standardized activities and processes, Kaizen aims to eliminate waste (see Lean manufacturing). Kaizen was first implemented in several Japanese businesses during the country’s recovery after World War II, including Toyota, and has since spread to businesses throughout the world.

Whether it’s something to be found in the nature of WordPress or whether it’s my own personal character expressing itself through the art and science of blogging or perhaps a combination of both – “Kaizen” has surely sneaked it’s way into my time, energy and passion when it comes to blogging.

Although perfection can never be attained one can always aim for it. In my search for the perfect blog (“Daizen”) I just keep chipping away, chipping away and chipping away… just like my motto since starting work at Goroka General Hospital:

“Chip, chip, chip… slowly but surely” (The recent spate of media releases about my work at The Hospital must surely be proof that this approach works):

Goroka hospital goes online in a first for PNG! (26/09/08)

Open Source and potential savings for Papua New Guinea (3/10/08)

Health Secretary visits Goroka General Hospital (17/10/08)

Back to WordPress…

Here’s a few things that I have played around with recently and implemented on my Blog:

1) A facility to subscribe to my daily posts at Trupela Tok via email…

Subscribe to this Blog via Email

2) A feature that allows you to hover of a word in Tok Pisin (Pidgin) and get the english equivalent…

Ever wandered what the following words meant?:

bilum

wantok

bubu

Just hover over the word and see for yourself!

3) I am now able to embed Google maps into my Blog Posts…
