Just around the corner from home in West Goroka a new church is being built. Before they even started on the building a massive razor wire and steal fence was erected. Shame that a place of worship and spiritual reflection needs to resort to concentration camp style construction to protect itself from the local community – the very people they are aiming to serve.
The other day as I was walking past the building site I wandered over and set out to strike up conversation with one of the construction workers. I have been amused by the massive fence for some weeks now and in an attempt to make small talk I asked him: “Is this new fence to keep folks in or to keep them out?” The bloke sort of looked at me not quite knowing what to make of my sarcasm.
Needless to say that the small talk never quite got of the ground!

Lordy…whatever will they think of next??? Heavens above, so now we have to get through razor wire and steel gates before we can get to the Pearly ones!!??
Perhaps there’s a real estate shortage in heaven and razored fence just makes it that little bit harder to get in. Keeps the numbers down if you know what I mean.
