A week and a half since I’ve been back Downunder and I feel like a little kid in a lolly shop. After experiencing slow and costly internet in Papua New Guinea for the past five years, I can’t help but get carried away with the speed, low cost and pervasiveness of Internet access in this country.
Here’s a network speed test I just ran from my laptop in Mum’s sun-room – connected via wireless – to an ADSL2+ service for a piddly AU$40 a month:
And to further annoy all those dialup and timed call internet users back in the Land of the Unexpected – here’s a pamphlet that fell out of the local newspaper the other day…
Once again… my sincerest apologies for rubbing it in!!

What should I say ? Later I found out it wasn’t a good day. It’s 6 up and down.
Under the circumstances best not to say anything!

Ha, I tested a 7,2 Mb/s down.
S,
Leave the “rubbing it in” to me mate. It’s your job as a visitor to just read the posts!!
R
I feel like crying….:( Its soooooo unfair…..WHYYEEEEEEEE
It’s OK Emmanuel… I totally understand how you must feel! Got an email from a mate the other day – who is on a 10Mbs synchronous subscription in his home!! When I heard that… I looked at my “piddly” 4mbs and almost broke down myself!!
R
Considering I’m at the Melo to get decent internet, you SUCK!!!!!!! We can’t even get broadband out at UNITECH. I’m working on it, though!!!!! I miss my rss feeds!!!!!!!
Wendy,
You made it to Lae!
Be prepared for the frustrations!
Hope you and family are settling OK and enjoying the experience.
Rob
ps I’ve accepted and offer and will be heading Lae direction in 4 to 6 weeks.
A mate was recently boasting about the performance of cable internet service at his home – piddly upload speed but pretty decent on the download… almost 20Mb/s!! I just know that someone’s going to come along and spruik about their 100Mb/s – 60 bucks a month – ISP service!
Makes me wonder whether the decision to return to PNG is the right one!
