Please allow me to rub it in folks

After Google recently updated it’s PageRank (PR) algorithm – ranking for Trupela Tok jumped from a 5 to a 7. Google PR is the current de-facto for ranking popularity of web pages and considering that until last week I had posted zilch for a whole 6 months – this change to my blog’s ranking came as an unexpected surprise.

Most readers could not give a rats arse about my PR (don’t blame you) – some unfortunately might be feeling a little envious (stiff shit) – but at least a few – I would hope – would be thinking “onya Rob” !!

You will now be able to tell your friends: “I know someone who’s website has a PRĀ  7″ !!

Google describes PageRank:

PageRank reflects our view of the importance of web pages by considering more than 500 million variables and 2 billion terms. Pages that we believe are important pages receive a higher PageRank and are more likely to appear at the top of the search results.

PageRank also considers the importance of each page that casts a vote, as votes from some pages are considered to have greater value, thus giving the linked page greater value. We have always taken a pragmatic approach to help improve search quality and create useful products, and our technology uses the collective intelligence of the web to determine a page’s importance.

I don’t want to rub it in folks (well perhaps I do) but Trupela Tok remains the number one ranked website in Papua New Guinea according to Alexa. I just checked! Go here if you don’t believe me.

And whilst I’m rubbing it in… I’ve have not been able to find another Papua New Guinea based website with a Google PR of 7.

To those wanting to improve their ranking here’s 10 Simple Tips from the “master” – your website /blog must be:

  1. Pleasing to the eye (aesthetics)
  2. Grabs attention (content)
  3. Of interest to other websites (back links)
  4. Search Engine friendly and optimised (SEO)
  5. Semantically correct (validation)
  6. Updated regularly (frequency)
  7. Easy to find things (navigation)
  8. Fast to load (performance)
  9. Tidy up broken links (maintenance)
  10. Have an open mind (variety)

Hi Rob, great result … But !

Based on your web site …. missing in action for 7 months…. does that not constitute inactivity and hence the ranking dropping considerably ? ie, to point # 6 above : Updated Regularly
