The summer holidays are now well and truly over !

Students queued up for enrolment

With the academic year scheduled to start Monday week (13th) and students starting to arrive in preparation for next week’s registration, the summer holidays are slowly drawing to an end. A whole 4 months worth!!

I am finding it very difficult to get motivated to prepare lectures and have one more week left to get organised. After 4 months of turning up for walk but not really achieving much (academically) - time has come to move into gear. Preparation is an essential component of the lecturing business and without it one faces the danger of standing in front of the class on that 1st day and looking like a good old idiot (around here idiots are sometimes referred to as Half Sense).

And whilst we are on the subject of new students…

An email come around a couple of weeks ago asking any staff if they wished to volunteer for a student orientation evening next Wednesday. You guessed right ! The “One man circus” put up his hand and volunteered to play some didjeridoo. No probs! The orientation “fun” evening is scheduled to take place in Duncanson Hall, the same place where the Great Debate was held during UNITECH’s celebrations for PNG Independence Day. I think DH can seat close to 400 people. I suspect a full house on the evening! What have I got myself into? Not to worry… the larger the audience the bigger the stage!!

Besides…. the “one man circus” loves an audience !!
