The pace is picking up !
As the start of the academic year gets closer (next Monday) - the pace has definitely picked up. Four months of easy street are now well and truly over.
This week is Student Orientation week at Unitech and everyone is running around frantically (staff and students alike) in attempt to get organised and ready for next Monday. So what have I got on my plate today? :
1) Preparation of lectures. The main subject I will be taking this semester is IS215 : “Accounting Information Systems” - a 2nd year subject and one that I am very much looking forward to teaching and assisitng students with. There are other subjects that I am helping out with but only in a tutoring capacity which only require minimum preparation.
2) At 1:00pm today all 1st year DBS students will get an opportunity to meet with the Head of Department and also other DBS staff. This is a 1st for me as last year I arrived after the start of the academic year and missed out on all these so called Orientation activities. The session today at 1:00pm will be held in Duncanson Hall (big “mother” of a hall).
3) And…. this evening there is some “fun” planned for the Orientation festivities. Various staff have put up their hand to volunteer and will perform for the students tonight in Duncanson Hall (the same big “mother” of a hall).
You guessed it !
The “one man circus” will be taking to the stage and performing (as he does) for the new Unitech students. At first I thought : get on stage and just play some “didjeridoo” - the concept has expanded somewhat and I now plan on saying a few “things”. Need to prepare properly for this and will be doing so later this afternoon.
In the meantime the tradespeople are busy next door getting a new office ready for a volunteer/lecturer (Anthony) whom is scheduled to arrive later this month. I can hear the sawing and the hammering and the mumbling. Music to the ears! At least someone round here is doing some real work!
On the subject of real work…. got to run !!
