Approximately 600 hundred students graduated today in the presence of their proud parents and other family members. Family members and relatives converged upon UNITECH for the occasion with the ceremony getting of to a start at around 9:00am and finishing at around 1:00pm.
Apart from trying not to listen to the boring speeches by the “bigmen”, I basically just wandered around the grounds and mingled, took plenty of photos and found shade when things got a little hot. Unfortunately I did not get any close-ups of the graduation ceremony as I decided not to sit in the main tent but instead meandered around the periphery and surrounds.
A big day for all the graduates and I am very proud of them. Some were students in my IS422 (Management Information Systems) course during the 2nd semester of 2005. I feel privileged to have been involved in their education and to have met them for they are the future of PNG and a great responsibility falls on their shoulders. Things in PNG need to change and change they will. I have great hope for PNG as these new graduates enter the work force. I know they will make a difference.
There are quite a few students I never got a chance to catchup with this morning. Shortly I will venture out into heat again and lets see whom I can track down. Obviously more photos to come but in the meantime the photos that I did manage to snap are in the Graduation 2006 photo album.
