My office mate Goasa left campus this morning for a 5 week study trip to Taiwan. The above photo of Goasa and Anthony (fellow AVIer) was taken last night at home after Goasa popped in to say farewell. (Can you work out which out of the two is captive?).
Onya Goasa !! The trip to Taiwan is being sponsored by the Taiwanese Government and the 5 week training that Goasa is attending has to something with Multimedia. Definitely a grand opportunity for my PNG mate. Opportunities such as this one for the nationals do not come around that frequently. I told Goasa last night that I believed this trip to have the potential for major change in his life. This will be Goasa's 1st time overseas and also the 1st time in over 20 years he will be away from his regular supply of buai, although I have it on good authority that buai is readily available on the island of Taiwan.
I did mention to Goasa that if he forwards me any photos - I am happy to post these to my blog. I am certainly not holding my breath but if anything does come my way from Taiwan by the way of photos or stories - I will post these for readers to view.
One thing did strike me last night as totally “odd” was the fact that Goasa had to pay for his own bus/taxi fare to Nadzab (airport). With his flight departing Lae at 7:00am there was no alternative for Goasa other than to book a private bus/taxi to pick him up from home at around 5:00am. Normally the university provides transport for drop offs or pickups from the airport (if the flight is work related) but for some reason - “someone” refused to sign off on the transport authorisation. Who would be so mean??
There is always something to winge about is'nt there…?
All shit aside…. I hope that Goasa has the trip of a life time - as I'm sure he will.
