Tidbits !

Another blog post in point form…

- A Departmental examinations meeting was scheduled for 10am this morning. Most staff rocked up at the meeting between 10:15am and 10:30am. At 10:30am Department Head suggests that we reconvene at 11:00am due to certain reports still in the process of being photocopied.

- Onya Queensland!!  I was most impressed that the Morones finally scored a victory. Will probably end up supporting NSW next year!! A couple of observations re last night's match:
a) Obviously Gerry Harvey didn't make his millions from talking. The shortest speech ever by a VIP.
b) What the fuck was our prime minister doing at the rugby? I thought he was a cricket man. Sure glad he never got an opportunity to open his mouth and spread some more bullshit.
c) I learnt last night that video reffing is not all it's cut out to be.
d) What is someone with a neckbrace doing playing one of  sports most violent games?

- Have watched more TV in the past month than I have for a long long time. Still content to be able to say that I have never owned a TV. An idiot box if I have ever seen an idiot box.

- Lae and it's rain. Wet season is definitely here. Good for the green and the birds but what about the potholes? Rain and potholes seem to love each other. The potholes around town are the worst I have seen them in the 18 months I've been here.

- Excitement in the air with our trip up to “Kaubasis” leaving early tomorrow morning. Heading up to Eli's father's village in Simbu. I am told that “Kaubasis” is ples kanaka tru. Each time I head off to a PNG village I have to tap myself - tis a dream come tru - to experience the “old” ways first hand. A true privilege.

- The list of things to be fixed at my home in Purari Dr., by UNITECH's Housing Department continues to grow. The list has been growing since the beginning of the year - without any response whatsoever - when I complain and it doesn't matter to whom - I just seem to get a lot of hot wind. No action. So about 6 weeks ago I made a decision to send a Memo to both Housing and Senior Management every couple of days. So far I am up to around 20 memo's and have only received one response - which in fact tiurned out to be more hot air.

- There is much in PNG to get frustrated about. Despite all these annoyances - life is still grand. An adventure it sure is and dreams do come true.

- Have a backlog of photos that still need posting. They seem to be coming in at a rate of knots and I will continue to post these as time permits.

- Re opportunities for work in PNG beyond 2006 - I have mentioned previously that there are a few irons in the fire (so to speak). Recently one of these irons went white hot. Can't say much more at this stage. What will be will be!  Please God…  just don't make me go back to Sydney!!
