(I hung up the following notice on various campus notice-boards this morning)

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for the UNITECH
Cultural Show 2006. The hard work, the dedication and commitment that
went into making this event happen needs to be commended and is proof
that you are capable of great things.

A few weeks ago I was invited by the organizing committee to be one of
the panel judges for the Mr. and Miss. Traditional contest; I accepted
this task with a deep sense of privilege. As far as I am concerned you
were all winners on the day.

The variety and quality of your bilas, your singing and you’re dancing
and the pride with which you carried and showcased your heritage and
tradition was exceptional beyond words.

PNG is a unique place and has much to offer and contribute to the future
of our planet. There exists here a depth and a quality of human
interaction that has all but disappeared from so the called western or
developed societies. Your challenge as future leaders of this great
nation is to take the best of the old world and the new world into the
future.

My time as a volunteer is slowly drawing to an end and I am already
starting to sense sadness within at the thought of saying goodbye. I am
absolutely certain that the experience of this past weekend will remain
with me for many years to come and one day in the future I will look
back and remember the UNITECH Cultural Show 2006 with great fondness and
admiration for all those that participated.
