The “Hut”! (Written 25/4/07)

The “Hut” or our Dream Home is coming along
nicely. Work is progressing in earnest and we have been told that the basic
structure is now complete. Uncle Joel was around earlier this week to pickup
some more nails and mentioned that some of the villagers will be starting on
the roof within the next few days.

I mentioned in an earlier post that we had
input into the actual design. The center structure is a traditional round house
with four annexes attached. The roundhouse itself will have a fire place in the
center and its main function is one of a meeting space. Each of the annexes in
turn will house: the two bedrooms, kitchen/storage and main entrance. The
toilet pit will be dug about 6 meters away from the main structure.

We are both looking forward to having our
own place to stay when visiting the village. The round house or meeting space
will probably get used quite frequently on our stays. Some of the local elders
are keen to discuss various projects with me and our home will serve as a
discussion and meeting place.

We head to the village weekend after this
coming one and hopefully I’ll get a chance to snap some more photos of how
things are progressing. I tell you - this event is more than exciting, its mind
blowing in fact. As this adventure slowly unfolds, I’m curious where the next
turn will lead to. I’m just slowly nudging things along rather than assuming
the role as architect or designer. I like the way my life is unfolding right
now. Directly into the unknown!

Its cool… a wise man once told me that:
“Spirituality lies in the direction of unknowingness”.

Sure looking forward to Mum’s visit
(hopefully in September) and sharing a little of this adventure with her.
