I let “loose” for the 1st time
in three months since arriving in Goroka. Eli went to Kaubasis yesterday to
take some food and nails to the folk in the village building our “hut”. Her
plan was to come back to town later in the day and like with many such plans in
PNG things did not quite go according to schedule. She managed to catch a PMV
from Mangiro Junction at around 5:30pm and a few miles out of Goroka the PMV
blew a tyre. Eli told me that although the PMV was hurtling along at high speed
the PMV driver managed to pull over the bus to the side of the road safely.
Eventually another PMV stopped, picked up most of the stranded folk and dropped
Eli of at Three Mile where she stayed over with her cousin
I was “single” again for one whole evening!
Just like the good old days!
Space!
And no nagging!
To take advantage of the situation I
invited Marcel, a Dutch volunteer, over for dinner and drinks. We partied and
relaxed until the wee hours, the release was excellent. I called it a PNG free
evening - no one staying over, no visitors, no aunties or uncles, no cousins
and no brothers nor sisters. It was just me, a mate and a few cold ones.

The next morning…
Never again! I absolutely despise
hangovers. It takes me a whole day to recover. It’s now seven in the evening
and I’m still suffering! The head goes off on tangents; the thinking goes
stinking and a general sickly feeling all over the body.
Poor me… poor me…
A good night’s sleep and I’ll be as good as
new.

from writers block)
