Here is how the “Hut” looked as of yesterday…

The rest of the photos I took yesterday can be viewed in the “The “Hut” @ Waraguma (Kaubasis)” photo
album.
We also said goodbye to young Paul…

Paul heads back home to the Gumini District in Simbu after a long term stay
in Kaubasis. Somewhere along the way he is related to Eli’s clan but don’t
ask me how or through whom! (It starts to get confusing for me after first
cousins).
Young Paul recently met a local girl and now he is getting married! His
relo’s were around last week to “Makim Pei” - this is a ceremony when
families get together to decide on the Bride Price figure - that is how much
cash and how many pigs. Paul’s family will be back in the near future to
“Putim Pei” - the handing over of the agreed payment.
I had the opportunity to thank Paul yesterday for the work and energy he
contributed to the building of the “Hut”. Paul was a great help to say the
least and Eli and myself will always remember him as one of the full-time
crew. Just before heading back to Goroka I handed Paul a small sum of cash -
a token thank you for his sweat and hard work. I wish that I had more to
give him - hopefully he will be back with his new wife in the near future
and take the opportunity to stay with us in the village.
All the best Paul - thank you and farewell!
