More photos from the PM’s visit to Goroka…

I have posted some more photos from yesterday’s visit to Goroka by the PM of Australia. I got about 50 snaps all up and 25 have gone up this afternoon with the remainder to be posted tomorrow.

Check out photo album Australian PM visit March 2008.

Here’s my favourite and will remain so for many years to come…

On a completely different note…

My blog subscription with Domain Direct is about to expire. I’m in the middle of racking my brain whether to move to another provider. The blogging facilities with Domain Direct are excellent except their services sucks. I’v had a ticket logged with their Helpdesk since middle December and as yet I’ve had absolutely jack response.

I would like to do a little more than just blogging and branch out a little so to speak. The blog will remain it’s just some other web stuff that I would really like to get stuck into. What I’m aiming for is to have:

blog.schilt.info - point to my blog.
www.schilt.info - point to a website.

There would naturally be a link from the website to my blogging pages.

Welcome to the vast world of hosting companies and services. It’s unbelievable. There exists out there a huge collection of companies that are willing, for a fee of course, to host your website and throw in a bunch of tools with the package.

There’s a real glitch… moving the blog from one provider to another! No menial task and with no two blogging engines having the same format it will be next to impossible to retain the current layout. Photos are another issue and I’ve been having a look at www.flickr.com but then again why not keep everything together. If I go down the path of a hosted website - the blog could be just that… a blog, photos could sit up on the website itself. The permutations seem endless.

There also something else to consider… I know that if I do move that I will get caught up with the technical detail of it all and not stop until I’m happy with what I got. I’m reluctant to move providers for this reason cause it could be the start of many a night beyond pumpkin hour.

The migrations from one blog to another also needs to be considered due to the dialup nature of my internet connection. My 200Mb download limit per month will get used up very fast! But there are companies out there that will perform the migration for you. At a cost of course. It’s amazing what people are prepared to do when you wave a few notes in front of their faces!

Options, options and more options….

More than likely I will retain my subscription with Domain Direct for another year and at the same time purchase a subscription to a web hosting company. This will give me time to blog and “play” and still get to bed at a decent hour. The 200mb could be cutting it fine though - the 200mb cuts it fine what ever one does in cyberspace.

I can hear Eli chopping away at the cutting board and I’m going to check out some available domain names.

Kets.
