Folks…
That day was today!!
(I just spent the last hour writing this story only to accidentally hit an obscure combination of keys on my laptop which caused all my typing to be lost).
To summarise…
The newly formed Keto-Tapasi Progress Association organised the pickup of 200 bags of coffee parchment today.
For the 1st time since many a local can remember they didn’t have to lug heavy bags into town and get ripped of the local “humbak” coffee buyers. We not only managed to get a truck out there to pickup the coffee but we were also able to negotiate factory price, which means that the folks back in the village will get more kina’s for their coffee and there’ll be enough left over for the association to put aside and deposit into it’s current empty coffers.
A win for all!!
The challenge now is: how do we get the cash back to the village without getting held up at Daulo Pass and ensure that everyone is paid what they are owed? This ladies and gentlemen will be told to you in another post.
In the meantime if you want to check out some snaps from the week before last when we visited the village with a couple of the blokes from Monpi Coffee - just click here.
And for the benefit of those readers that can’t be bothered clicking on the here - below is a photo taken at the village during that meeting…
